Jammers Running on all Cylinders

July 16, 2013 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Jamestown Jammers News Release

Jamestown, N.Y. - The Jammers are coming off of their longest road trip of the season heading into their first off-day of the season. Jamestown played six games on the road making stops in Hudson Valley (McNamara) and Lowell (Stedler) which became the first games played outside of the Pinckney Division this season.

Jamestown headed out for Hudson Valley early last Wednesday with first place in the Pinckney Division on their side. Now with six straight home games at Diethrick Park coming up, the Jammers find themselves holding onto the top spot over second place Williamsport and six games over .500. The Jammers finished the six game trip 3-3, but more importantly had a chance to pull out a "W" in each of the three games that they fell short in.

Harold Ramirez is just one of the Jammers that have started to swing a hot bat lately. Ramirez has appeared in all but one game (27) this season for the Jammers and boasts a .337 batting average which is third best in the New York-Penn League. He also is tied for the league lead in hits (35) and stolen bases (12). Overall he finds himself in the top five of five different offensive statistical categories in the NYPL.

The most recent draft for the Pittsburgh Pirates has sent some bright futures to Jamestown in the way of JaCoby Jones (3rd Rd.), Cody Dickson (4th Rd.), and Adam Frazier (6th Rd.) just to name a few. In total the Jammers currently field 16 of the Pirates '13 draft picks and could be one of the reasons for the energetic team that Jamestown has had this season. Michael Fransoso, who was taken in the 27th round, has been the most consistent bat thus far for the Jammers. Fransoso is batting .326 on the season through 26 games and has drawn 19 walks in 86 plate appearances.

Danny Collins, who was drafted in the 13th round, has showcased power at the plate early in his professional career. Collins leads the team and NYPL in home runs (6) games played with 28 and slugging percentage (.562). He also leads the team in runs scored (21), extra base hits (9), and total bases (59). 17th round pick Justin Topa has had a solid start to his pro career, appearing in seven games for Jamestown. He currently owns a 1.93 ERA through 14 IP and has yielded just three earned runs while striking out 11 batters.

The first year of the affiliation between the Jammers and Pirates has seen great pitching, a potent offense and a close knit group of ball players. The Jammers are searching for their first playoff berth since earning a wild-card spot in 2010. Winning a division title is also something that Jamestown has their sights set on. The last time the Jammers finished atop a division in the NYPL was the 1994 season when they put together a 42-32 record as members of the Stedler Division.
