BAKERSFIELD, January 16, 2014 - Earlier today, Bakersfield Jam coaches, players, front office personnel and interns all visited the X-Factor After-School Program at Standard Middle School. During the visit, the team emphasized on being active, eating healthy and playing together.

What is X-Factor? X-Factor is a free three-hour after-school program for 1st through 8th graders of the Standard School District that provide: homework help, academic activities, physical fitness activities, enrichment activities and daily snacks.

"It's always great to get away from the court as a team and give back to the community," said head coach Will Voigt.

The event began at the school's cafeteria where 6th, 7th and 8th graders of the program all took a seat for snack time. The Jam provided carrots for every kid, along with NBA Cares wristbands and autographed team photos. Bakersfield's head athletic trainer Shaun Mirza then spoke about the importance of living an active, healthy lifestyle on and off the court. A Q&A session with the players then took place, where students who participated won prizes.

Once the Q&A session concluded, everyone walked over to the gym where basketball drills, games and activities where conducted. The highlight of the day came at the end of the event where Billy Baptist put on a slam-dunk show as kids screamed, "Billy, Billy, Billy!"

"It was great going and hanging out with the kids today," said Baptist. "They seem very active, but it's important that they hear and see people they look up to being active and living a healthy lifestyle."

The Bakersfield Jam would like to thank Standard Middle School for allowing the team to come in to their school for a day and not only have a little fun but to talk about the importance of being active, eating healthy and playing together.
