LONG BEACH, Calif. (Jan. 2, 2005) – The Long Beach Jam (8-4) of the American Basketball Association (ABA) lost to the Los Angeles Stars 134-118, Sunday at the Pyramid in Long Beach. The Jam had won the teams' first three meetings of the season.

The Jam jumped out to a 30-14 advantage after the first quarter. Despite 12 second-quarter points by the Jam's, Jelani McCoy, the Stars cut the lead to 59-53 by halftime, outscoring Long Beach by 10 in the second stanza. Darwin Carter scored 17 of his 28 points in the quarter for the Stars.

In the third quarter, the Stars outscored the Jam by 16 to take a 96-86 lead with Ramel Lloyd scoring 21 of his game-high 32 points. The Stars shined in the fourth, going up by as many as 18 points. But the tenacious Jam defense helped cut the lead to 120-115. Another Stars run ended any hope of a Jam comeback, as Los Angeles closed the game by outscoring Long Beach 14-4.

A.J. Diggs nearly logged a triple-double for the Stars, with 14 points, 15 assists and seven steals. The Jam were lead by Ramel Curry's 22 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five steals. Felipe Lopez was the team's top scorer with 30 points and McCoy finished with 24 points and nine rebounds.

The Jam's next game is Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Pyramid against the Las Vegas Rattlers.
