Bakersfield Jam News Release
(Bakersfield, Calif., July 5, 2007) - Team officials for the Bakersfield Jam, members of the NBA Development League, today announced that they would remain affiliated with the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings for the 2007-2008 season.
"We look forward to continuing our association with Golden State and Sacramento," says Michael Hirsch, team president of the Jam. "The overall relationship between D-League teams and the NBA continues to strengthen and we can't wait to grow our affiliation, both from a player personnel and marketing standpoint."
Last year, Patrick O'Bryant, the Warriors first round draft pick (ninth overall), appeared in 25 games for the Jam, starting 23 of them. O'Bryant averaged 12 points and 9.6 rebounds per game while shooting at a .515 clip from the field. The 7'0" center graduated from Bradley and made his NBA debut on October 17 versus the Portland Trailblazers. For the season, O'Bryant appeared in 16 games with the Warriors.
"We are excited about our affiliation with the Bakersfield Jam and Head Coach Jim Harrick. Bakersfield is an ever-expanding market and the fans in the region will certainly benefit from the opportunity to watch some of the talented future stars of the NBA. In fact, Patrick O'Bryant, our first round draft pick in 2006, had the opportunity to further develop his game in Bakersfield this past season. It's a win-win situation for the city of Bakersfield, the D-League and the Warriors," says Chris Mullin, Executive vice-president of basketball operations for the Golden State Warriors.
"The D-League has been a useful tool for us. Our association with the Bakersfield Jam is an important one that we hope to utilize in the future," says Geoff Petrie, Sacramento Kings president of basketball operations.
Entering its seventh season, the D-League is the NBA's minor league established to develop talent across all disciplines for the NBA including players, coaches, referees, and front office staff. During the 2007-07 season, 19 NBA teams assigned 24 players to D-League rosters, and 14 NBA teams called-up 16 players while 31 D-League alumni participated in the NBA playoffs.
The Bakersfield Jam, members of the NBA D-League, play their home games at Rabobank Arena and offer the Bakersfield community a top-tier professional sports team at affordable prices. The 2006-7 Jam roster featured eight players with NBA experience and the organization is committed to providing Bakersfield with the best family entertainment option.
