May 3, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Jacksonville Slam News Release

Jacksonville, Fla, May 3, 2007 - The Jacksonville JAM today announced Scott Cooper as head coach and Director of Basketball Operations. He will replace former head coach Steve Tucker, who recently accepted a postion as head coach of the Rio Grande Valley Silverados, an American Basketball Association (ABA) team in McAllen, Texas. This will be Cooper's first professional head coaching role, a position for which he has been well prepared during his 12 year coaching career.

Cooper is a natural fit for his new role. A Jacksonville native, he served as assistant head coach and Director of Player Personnel during the JAM's 2006-2007 season, leading the team to finish No. 2 overall in the ABA with a 28-8 regular season record.

"Scott has proven himself to be a tremendous asset both on and off the court," Jacksonville JAM General Manager Felix Krupczynski said. "We look forward to him leading the JAM in our quest for a national championship in the upcoming season."

Cooper has spent most of his sports career in the Jacksonville area. Prior to joining the JAM, Cooper served as assistant coach at Florida Community College from 1999 to 2003, where he lead the team to the state tournament with only four losses in the 2003 season. He was head junior varsity and assistant varsity coach at Wolfson High School from 2003-2006, where he also was an all-conference and all-city player as a student from 1986-1989. He lead the varsity team to the Elite Eight during each year of his three-year tenure. Cooper also played college basketball at Palm Beach Atlantic University and Tallahassee Community College.

During his career, Cooper has sent six players to Division 1 college scholarships at schools including University of Oregon, Mercer University, San Jose State University, Washington State University, Stetson University and Florida A&M University.

"I've had the privilege of not only growing up in the Jacksonville sports community, but becoming a coach and mentor of our city's great players," said Cooper. "I couldn't think of a better city to start my career as an ABA head coach."

Cooper will conduct open team tryouts on Saturday, May 26, at the University of North Florida (UNF) Arena from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Registration is online at www.jaxjam.com.

The regular season will tip-off at the University of North Florida Arena on Friday, Nov. 9, 2007. The JAM will play 18 home games during the 2007-2008 season.
