BAKERSFIELD, November 15, 2015 - The Bakersfield Jam (0-2) dropped their home opener 123-119 to the Reno Bighorns (1-1) on Sunday night. Xavier Munford had a game-high 35 points on 11-of-16 shooting, including 6-of-9 from beyond the arc.
Munford scored 21 of his 35 points in the first half, helping the Jam take a 57-56 lead at halftime. The third quarter saw Reno catch fire as they shot 64 percent from field, including 7-of-11 from three-point range, and outscored the Jam 41-30.
Trailing 97-87 to start the final frame, Bakersfield launched a quick run (12-1) to start the period and took a 99-98 lead at the 9:50 mark. The Jam would see their one-point advantage vanish quickly as the Bighorns regained the lead and increased it to 119-114 with less than two minutes remaining in regulation. A C.J. Wilcox trey would bring Bakersfield within two with 12.5 seconds left, but Reno knocked down key free-throws that ultimately sealed the game.
In addition to Munford, five other Jam players had double-digit scoring performances. Wilcox finished with 26 points and six assists, while Earl Clark notched 15 points to go along with eight rebounds. The other three leading scorers for the Jam: Kyle Casey (13), Terrico White (13) and Deonte Burton (10).
All five starters for Reno scored in double-figures, led by Ricky Ledo (30 points) and Reggie Hearn (30 points; 8/11 3FGs). Vincent Hunter (18 points, 10 rebounds) and Cliff Hammonds (11 points, 14 assists) each added a double-double.
Next up for the Jam is a match against the Los Angeles D-Fenders on Tuesday, November 17 in Bakersfield. Tip-off is set at 7:00 p.m. PT.
