BAKERSFIELD, CALIF., April 7, 2015 - The Bakersfield Jam defeated the Austin Spurs in dominant fashion, with a 117-79 home victory in Game One of the Western Conference Semifinals. Xavier Munford had a stellar performance, posting a season-high 34 points, six rebounds, six assists and five steals.
Bakersfield was sharp on both ends of the floor to begin the game, as they finished the opening quarter shooting 53.1 percent from the field, while holding Austin to 11 points on 25.0 percent shooting. In the second frame, the Jam stretched their lead to 23 points and went into the half with a 55-33 advantage.
The third period saw the Jam's lead cut down to 12 points (61-49) at the 7:39 mark, thanks to the Spurs' strong start to the second half. Bakersfield would respond with an 11-2 run to regain control of the game. In the final frame, the Jam extended their lead to as big as 46 points and cruised to a victory inside the Dignity Health Event Center.
Renaldo Major finished with 27 points, eight rebounds and three steals for the Jam. Jamil Wilson added 15 points and a game-high eight assists, while Casey Prather (13) and Alec Brown (13) also finished in double-digit scoring.
Kyle Anderson, on assignment from the San Antonio Spurs, led Austin with 17 points, while Orlando Johnson tallied 14 points. Jonathan Simmons and Erik Murphy had 12 points apiece.
The Jam will travel to Austin for Game Two on Saturday, April 11, with tip-off scheduled at 10:00 a.m. PT. The game will air LIVE on ESPNews.
