Jam Defeated by Erie BayHawks at Showcase

SANTA CRUZ, CA - The Erie BayHawks (7-11) defeated the Bakersfield Jam (9-14) by a score of 97-87 on the final day of the 2016 NBA Development League Showcase in Santa Cruz, CA.

Terrico White paced the Jam with 21 points on an 8-of-13 shooting performance, while fellow starters Earl Clark and Xavier Munford scored 15 and 13 points, respectively. Askia Booker came off the bench to chip in 15 points, seven assists and five rebounds in 27 minutes, and starter Derek Cooke, Jr. grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds for Bakersfield.

The BayHawks' Keith Appling led all scorers with 27 points on 11-of-15 shooting, in addition to eight rebounds and six assists in the win, which is Erie's second at the Showcase. Tyler Harvey hit 5-of-11 shots from beyond the arc on his way to 19 points in 27 minutes off the bench. Melvin Ejim recorded a 13-point, 12-rebound double-double for Erie, who as a team shot 39-of-85 from the floor (46 percent).

Erie held a 24-18 lead after one quarter of action, thanks to eight points off the bench from Harvey. Earl Clark put up 10 points for Bakersfield in the opening frame, and was the only player on either team to hit double-figures scoring in the opening quarter.

Appling finished the half with 12 points and five assists for Erie, which guided the BayHawks to a 50-38 halftime lead. The Jam went 0-for-10 from beyond the arc in the first half.

Bakersfield began to chip away at Erie's advantage in the third quarter, paced by nine points from White and nine combined bench points, but the BayHawks still held a 68-58 margin after three.

The Jam reduced Erie's lead to seven points with 1:39 to go in the fourth after a Munford layup, but weren't able to get any closer after Appling scored the final four points for the BayHawks, who had been in front since 5:10 in the first quarter. The teams combined to shoot just 10-of-44 from three-point land (23 percent) in the game, but Erie was able to knock down 39-of-85 field goals (46 percent) on their way to the win

Bakersfield's next game is at home on Thursday, Jan.14 vs. the Austin Spurs, at 7 p.m. PT.
