Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
(SUGAR LAND, Texas) - A three-run homer from Jake Meyers helped lead the Sugar Land Skeeters to a 6-3 win over the Tacoma Rainiers on Saturday night at Constellation Field.
Meyers' shot to left field put the Skeeters up 3-2 in the bottom of the third inning. It was his team-leading 15th home run of the year, also adding to his career high. Meyers hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning as well.
After Nivaldo Rodriguez and Seth Martinez combined to allow two runs through the first three frames, JP France struck out 10 batters and allowed a run on three hits through five innings. The 10 strikeouts were the most from a Skeeters pitcher this season and gave France 28 strikeouts through his last 15 1/3 innings pitched.
CJ Hinojosa drove in a pair of runs on the night, with an RBI double in the fifth and RBI single in the seventh. Hinojosa's double was his 19th of the year, which leads the Skeeters.
Enoli Paredes tossed a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his first save of the year.
Tacoma plated a run in each of the first two innings on an RBI single from Wyatt Mathisen and sacrifice fly from Luis Liberato. Rainiers starter Robert Dugger was handed the loss, allowing three runs through four innings.
The Skeeters and Rainiers are set to play a straight doubleheader on Sunday, with two seven-inning games, beginning at 4:05 p.m. Right-hander Brett Conine will get the start in game one for the Skeeters and will be opposed by left-hander Ian McKinney for Tacoma.
Single-game Skeeters tickets are on sale through the month of July. People can visit sugarlandskeeters.com/tickets to purchase their tickets today.
