Peoria opened the scoring at 5:44 of the first, just six seconds after going on the power play. Brandon Greenside took a pass off the faceoff from Adam Stuart and fired a one-timer past Fayetteville goalie Parker Van Buskirk to make it 1-0. The Rivermen doubled their lead at the 18:07 mark of the first when Chris Wilson took a pass off the back wall from Dave Pszenyczny and put it past Van Buskirk to put Peoria up 2-0.
The FireAntz cut the Peoria lead in half at 2:07 of the second when Bennett Schneider's shot from the point was blocked and came away to Nick Lazorko, who put it past a split-legged David Jacobson to trim the Peoria lead to 2-1. The Rivermen pushed their lead back up to 2 at 8:20 of the second stanza when a Mike Gurtler breakaway resulted in a rebound to Terrence Wallin, who lifted a backhand past Van Buskirk to put Peoria up 3-1.

With the game tied Fayetteville pulled Van Buskirk in the final minute and at 19:07 of the third a scramble at the top of the Peoria crease led to Derek Elliot scoring the game-tying goal, sending thegame to overtime 53 seconds later.
The overtime period went scoreless despite a late Fayetteville power play and the game went into overtime. The second and third Peoria shooters, Ben Power and Connor Toomey, each converted their shootout attempts to Van Buskirk's blocker side and Jacobson stopped all four Fayetteville shooters to clinch the victory.
