Jacks Take Game Five Behind Toivonen's 33 Saves

April 3, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL) - Odessa Jackalopes News Release

(Odessa, TX) - After two scoreless periods, Phil Plante's diving redirect effort between the circles proved to be the game-winner as the Odessa Jackalopes beat the Texas Brahmas by a 2-1 score on Saturday night at the Ector County Coliseum. The game five win gives Odessa a 3-2 series lead in the Southern Conference Semifinals.

Juha Toivonen stopped 33 of 34 shots to win his third postseason game this season. Sebastien Thinel broke the scoreless tie at 5:32 of the third period on a wrist shot from the left circle.

Texas appeared to take the first lead of the hockey game midway through the second period on a rush to the net. A centering pass deflected of a skate as a couple players went crashing into the Odessa net along with the puck. It was ruled that the puck never completely crossed the line and the goal was disallowed.

The Brahmas kept it tight towards the end on a goal from Ross Rouleau with 13 seconds remaining and the extra attacker on the ice.

Joe Palmer was equally as good making 35 saves for Texas, but took the loss.

Game six will take place on Monday night back in North Richland Hills, TX. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 PM. The action can be heard on Classic Rock 102.1 FM.

If a deciding game seven is needed, it would be played in Odessa on Wednesday, April 7th.
