Bucks Take 3-2 Series Lead With Big Win

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks beat the Allen Americans 5-1 Saturday night in game five of the Central Hockey League Southern Conference Semifinals at Laredo Energy Arena. The Bucks lead the best of seven series three games to two with game six Tuesday night in Allen.

Brent Cullaton scored two goals and added an assist while Pier Pelletier stopped a playoff career high 41 shots to lead Laredo. The Bucks have won back-to-back home playoff games since the 2008 Southern Conference Finals against Arizona.

The Bucks were outshot 42-28 in the game.

The Bucks came out of the gates quickly as they took a 1-0 lead just 1:16 into the game. Evan Schwabe took a pass from Todd Griffith on a two-on-one break and scored his first goal of the series off of a wrist shot in front of the net. The goal was Schwabe's first since March 5th at Texas. The Bucks improved to 1-1 in the series when scoring first.

Laredo would increase their lead to 2-0 with 6:10 left in the first period when they struck on the power-play. Sylvain Deschatelets scored his first goal of the series when he jammed in a loose puck on the right side of the crease.

Each team put up 10 shots in the first period.

The Bucks would go up 3-0 when they scored their second power-play goal of the contest 3:06 into the second period. Cullaton hammered in a slap shot from the middle of the right circle to pick up his second goal in as many games.

The Americans would pull starting goaltender Chris Whitley after Cullaton's goal. Whitley stopped 11 of 14 shots he faced in the contest.

Laredo would make it 4-0 with 4:03 left in the second period when Mike Looby took a pass from Cullaton in the slot and rifled in a slap shot to score his third of the series. Looby now has four career CHL playoff goals.

Allen would cut the Bucks lead to 4-1 with 3:01 left in the second when Bruce Graham banged in a power-play goal from the right side of the crease.

The Americans outshot the Bucks in the second period 20-12.

The Bucks went up 5-1 with 9:05 left in the third when Cullaton scored his second of the night and third of the series. Cullaton now has 15 career CHL playoff tallies.

Laredo is 3-0 in the series when they score four or more goals.

The Bucks scored two power-play goals in Saturday night's win giving them four power-play tallies in the last two games. Laredo was 0-for-15 with the man advantage in the first three games of the series.
