Jacks Sign Veteran Infielder

March 19, 2002 - Northeast League (NEL)
Adirondack Lumberjacks News Release

The Adirondack Lumberjacks of the Northern League announced the signing of INF Epy Guerrero.

Guerrero was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Toronto Blue Jays in 1984. Epy has spent 13 seasons playing at the AAA level several times during his career. Guerrero also spent the 1998 season in Taipei in Taiwan where he was crowned the League Batting Champion hitting .327.

Guerrero spent 15 games with the Jacks hitting .472 and earned Player of the Week honors leading the Jacks as they missed a play-off spot by 1½ games in the 2nd half.

"Epy is a huge sign for us. He is the type of player you build your team around. In the short time he was here last year you could tell he was someone special," states Jacks, General Manager, Curt Jacey.

Guerrero is slated to play 2nd base after the Jacks traded last year's starter Tony James in the off-season to acquire LHP Dallas Mahan.

Opening Day is May 24th 2002 vs. Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs at 6:00pm at East Field. All season, mini-pack and game tickets may be purchased by calling 518-743-9618.
