Adirondack Lumberjacks News Release
Glens Falls, NY- Following Mike Oliva's graduation from the University of Albany this past May, he thought he was going to be able to continue his playing career in an Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs uniform. The Diamond Dogs, though, released Oliva in spring training. The Diamond Dogs loss was the Lumberjacks gain. The Northern League club announced today that they have signed outfielder Mike Oliva. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The 5-10, 180 pound rookie graduated from the State University of New York at Albany, and saw action in two at bats last night in his first pro game. Oliva went 0-2, flying out twice.
The signing of Oliva, a native of White Plains, NY who now resides in Elmsford, NY, brings the total number of rookies on the Lumberjacks roster to six.
A spot opened for Oliva on the roster following the retirement of Lumberjack outfielder Brian Shultz.
The Lumberjacks have rescheduled their Second Annual Boy Scout Campout Night for next Saturday, June 22 against the Brockton Rox. Poor camping conditions and poor conditions for the audio/visual equipment were to blame for the rescheduling. Game time on June 22 is 7 PM. Tickets for this and all remaining home games are available by calling the Lumberjacks Ticket Office at (518) 743-8618.
