Bangor Lumberjacks News Release

Bangor, ME- The Bangor Lumberjacks, proud members of the Northeast League, announced today that they have signed two players from the Northeast League tryout camp in Florida. The Jacks selected LHP Tim Rall (pronounced R-all) with the sixth pick in the camp and C Daliene Rengifo (pronounced DAY-lee-en reng-HE-fo) with the eleventh pick.

Rall, a rookie, graduated from St. Andrews Presbyterian College in North Carolina in 2001, and will begin his first professional season with the Lumberjacks. He holds the SAPC career records for most appearances (120), innings pitched (300.2) and strikeouts (302) as well as the single season records for most wins (11), set in 2001, and appearances (34), set in 1999 and 2000.

"We're excited that we were able to get Tim at the sixth pick. We did not think that he would be available that late in the draft. He is the player that we really wanted to get," stated Lumberjacks General Manager Curt Jacey.

"Rall is an aggressive, hard-throwing lefty who could possibly be a starter, but I see him more as a swing man. He's a guy who can fill a lot of roles for us, whether it is starting, closing, spot starting or whatever," said Jacks Manager Kash Beauchamp. "I think he was one of the best pitchers at the camp, and I saw him throw for the third day in a row and he still had great velocity and command."

Rengifo, originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the White Sox in 1994, spent three years in their organization. The Venezuela native last played for Alexandria (LA) Aces of the Central League in 1999.

"Daliene was the best hitting catcher at any of the camps that I have been to. He's good defensively, and I think that he and (catcher Brad) Hargreaves will make a great combination," commented Beauchamp. "Rengifo is also very fast for a catcher and can steal a base. He will probably play some outfield for us as well."

The Lumberjacks open the 2003 campaign on the road against the Allentown (PA) Ambassadors on Thursday, May 22, but return to Bangor for the home opener on Friday, May 30 at 7 PM against the New Jersey Jackals at Mahaney Diamond. Please call 207-947-1900 for all ticket, promotional, and sponsorship information.
