Jacks Set Opening Day Roster

May 23, 2002 - Northeast League (NEL)
Adirondack Lumberjacks News Release

Glens Falls, NY- The Northern League's Adirondack Lumberjacks announced today the signing of veteran Juan Tolentino. The outfielder is expected to join the Jacks prior to the season opener, which is tomorrow against the Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs.

The 2002 season will be Tolentino's eighth is professional baseball. Last year, as a member of the Salt Lake City Stingers, the Anaheim Angel's highest affiliate, Juan hit .277 with 11 home runs, 66 RBI's and 17 stolen bases.

A native of San Pedro de Marcrois, Dominican Republic, Tolentino is a career .265 hitter with 57 career home runs and 320 RBI's to compliment his 176 career stolen bases.

"Considering that we couldn't get Jose Martinez into the country because of visa problems, we are extremely lucky to find a veteran of Juan's caliber at this point in the year," stated Lumberjacks General Manager Curt Jacey.

With the addition of Tolentino, the Lumberjack's roster now totals twenty, including ten pitchers, three catchers, three infielders, and four outfielders.

The Lumberjacks open the 2002 campaign against rival Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs on Friday, May 24, at 6 PM at East Field. The Lumberjacks will be celebrating AAA Northway's 100th Birthday, with fireworks following the game. Fans will also have a chance to win a trip for two to the Bahamas, courtesy of AAA Northway and US Airways Vacations. Tickets are available by calling the Lumberjack's ticket office at (518) 743-9618.
