Jacks Return Bernard, Add Beaulieu

June 16, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL) - Odessa Jackalopes News Release

The Odessa Jackalopes announced today that forward Kenny Bernard will return and defenseman Pierre-Olivier Beaulieu has signed with the club for the upcoming 2010-11 Central Hockey League campaign.

Bernard comes back to Odessa after tallying a career-high 21 goals and 33 assists last season for the Jackalopes to finish with 54 points. The 2010-11 season will be Bernard's third with the Jacks after signing with the team in December of 2008. He began his pro career with the Fresno Falcons of the ECHL in 2007 after a four-year run at Ohio State University.

"I'm looking forward to returning and trying to build on last year's success," said Bernard. "The playoff finish was disappointing, but now we just have to look towards this season and find a way to take that next step as a team."

The Sarnia, Ontario, native has 115 points (43 goals, 72 assists) in 176 professional games.

Pierre-Olivier Beaulieu (pee-AYER oh-LIV-ee-yay bol-YEW) comes to Odessa after spending last season in Germany where he registered six goals and 14 assists in 47 games. The 6'4", 215-pound defenseman was teammates with Bernard and Jacks forward, Mike Ramsay, in 2007-08 with Fresno.

A former draft pick of the NHL's Detroit Red Wings, Beaulieu spent three seasons in Fresno prior to his time in Germany, where he appeared in 215 games and scored 60 points (22 goals, 38 assists). Before turning pro, he played five seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

"(Bernard) was great for us last year and gives us some speed up front," said head coach, Paul Gillis. "(Beaulieu) gives us good size on the blue line and really plays a balanced game in terms of moving the puck and protecting our own end."

The Odessa Jackalopes are the Central Hockey League affiliate for the NHL's New York Islanders and the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The team will begin its 14th season in the Permian Basin in October 2010. Season tickets, mini-plans, and single game tickets are available by calling (432) 552-PUCK or visiting jackalopes.org.
