Odessa Jackalopes News Release
ODESSA, TX - Thanks to power-play goals from Willie Faust and Sheldon Taylor, the Odessa Jackalopes snapped a five-game losing streak Friday at Ector County Coliseum, outpacing the New Mexico Mustangs 3-1 to improve to 6-10-2 on the year and remain alone in fifth place in the NAHL's South Division Standings. Faust's first period marker, his seventh of the season and tenth overall point, moved him into a tie for second on the team in goals and total points alongside fellow Jacks sniper and linemate Chad Hennum.
Much like Faust, Taylor was sterling as well on Friday, earning a "Gordie Howe hat-trick" (a goal, an assist and a fight) in the first of back-to-back games for Odessa against New Mexico. In a quick-moving game that lasted just two hours and 27 minutes, the Jackalopes outshot their opponent for just the fifth time this season, outpacing the Mustangs with 35 shots on goal to New Mexico's 25. Tyler Poulson notched the Jacks' third goal, an insurance marker coming at even-strength, at 7:30 of the second. The goal was Poulson's second of the season and second in the past three games.
Connor Hellebuyck had another strong showing in net for Odessa, improving to 5-7-2 in his 14th start of the season. The Commerce, Michigan native stopped 24 of the 25 shots he faced in his fourth consecutive start. Next up for the Jacks, it's a rematch with New Mexico Saturday at 7:05 pm at Ector county Coliseum as Odessa looks to make it three straight wins against the Mustangs in the third of eleven meeting between the two teams in 2011-12.
The Odessa Jackalopes celebrate their 15th Anniversary in 2011-12 and drop the puck on their inaugural campaign as a member of the North American Hockey League. Season tickets, mini-plans, and single game tickets are available by calling (432) 552-7825 or by visiting the Jacks online at www.jackalopes.org.
