Bangor Lumberjacks News Release
Bangor, ME- The Bangor Lumberjacks have completed two minor deals the Northeast League club announced today. The first deal sends RHP Joe Magri to the New Jersey Jackals for future considerations. In a separate move, the Jacks sent OF Hiroshi Yamauchi to the Jackson (MS) Senators of the Central League for future considerations.
The 6-0, 180 pound Magri graduated from Pace University in 2002 before joining the Lumberjacks part way into the 2002 season. Joe collected a 2-1 record with a 3.28 ERA coming out of the bullpen, as well as starting. In 49.1 innings pitched, Magri struck out 26 and walked 14.
Yamauchi came to the Lumberjacks from the International Baseball Academy of Japan and batted .250 in 46 games. "Yama" stole 10 bases and collected a home run among 11 RBI's. His speed made him an excellent defender in center field.
The Lumberjacks also announced that they have released RHP Jose Martinez. Martinez, a native of the Dominican Republic was signed by the Lumberjacks prior to last season, but never threw a pitch for the club due to his inability to secure a visa to come to the United States. Martinez was not going to be able to pitch for Bangor this season.
The Lumberjacks open the 2003 campaign on the road against the Allentown (PA) Ambassadors on Thursday, May 22, but return to Bangor for the home opener on Friday, May 30 at 7 PM against the New Jersey Jackals at Mahaney Diamond. Please call 207-947-1900 for all ticket, promotional, and sponsorship information.
