Odessa Jackalopes News Release
BLAINE, MN - On day two of the 2012 NAHL Showcase, the Odessa Jackalopes fell to the Wisconsin-based Coulee Region Chill, 4-2 on Thursday at Schwan Super Rink in Blaine, Minnesota. With the loss, the Jacks fell to 0-2-0 on the season and, without a point in 2012-13, remain in sixth place in the NAHL's South Division. In six total Showcase games, spanning the 2011 and 2012 NAHL Showcase Tournaments, the Jackalopes are now 0-5-1 all-time at the NAHL's signature event.
After a scoreless first period in which the Jackalopes managed just three shots on goal, Chill forward Mac Jansen staked Coulee Region to a 1-0 lead at 1:32 of the middle frame. Odessa responded with back-to-back goals late in the second and early in the third period as Plymouth, Michigan native Steven Haydon potted both Jackalopes goals with Jared Docken and Aditya Karandikar notching assists and Taylor Portner collecting a pair of helpers on Haydon's pair of tallies.
Leading 2-1 midway through the third period, the Jacks took their foot off the gas at 7:06 when former Odessa centerman Matt Williams tied the game at two, then, goals from Travis Underwood and Jansen at 10:15 and 15:16 respectively, salted away the 4-2 victory for Coulee Region.
In his first start for the Jackalopes, Washington, Michigan native Jacob Theut turned in a workmanlike, 27 save performance and the Odessa power play, ineffective in eight chances on Wednesday, finally bore fruit, going 1/4 in Thursday's game.
Next up for the Jacks, it's a Friday morning showdown versus the West Division's Kenai River Brown Bears with the opening faceoff set for 10:00 AM on day three of the four-day, season-opening NAHL Showcase.
In 2012-13, the Odessa Jackalopes drop the puck on their second season as a member of the North American Hockey League. Season ticket packages for the Jacks' sophomore campaign are available now starting at just $179.
