
Wild Down Bulls, 5-3: Davis Scores Two Goals

BLAINE, Minn. - Jono Davis (La Verne, Calif.) scored two special teams goals Thursday to lead the Wenatchee Wild to a 5-3 victory over the Amarillo Bulls during the second day of competition at the NAHL Showcase Tournament at the Schwan Super Rink in Blaine, Minn.
Davis scored the first goal of the game near the midpoint of the first frame during a power play when he knocked in a centering feed from Josh Hartley (Coquitlam, Canada) from the slot. Blake Roubos (Niagara Falls, Canada) also assisted.
The Wild doubled their lead less than two minutes later when Chris Kerr (Penticton, British Columbia) went top shelf after receiving a pass from Nathan Flynn (Hastings, Minn.), who was position in the near corner. Jacob Barber (Dardenne Prairie, Mo.) earned the second helper.
Wenatchee scored its second power-play goal of the contest with 52 seconds remaining in the first period when Hartley cleaned up a rebound off of Max McHugh's (Edgewood, Wash.) shot. Noah Nelson (Oconomowoc, Wis.) also assisted.
The Bulls cut into the Wild lead with 5:03 left in the second period when T.J. Sarcona beat Robert Nichols (Dallas, Texas) on a pass from Omar Mullan.
Wenatchee and Amarillo combined for four third-period goals. Wenatchee scored the first of the four 57 seconds into the final stanza while short-handed when Davis scored on his forehand during a breakaway that began on a turnover at his blue line. Nichols earned the only assist.
Derick Kuchera (Eagan, Minn.) increased Wenatchee's lead to 5-1 moments after Davis scored when he buried a pass from McHugh, who stole the puck from an Amarillo defenseman behind the cage. Hartley also assisted.
Joe Grabowski and Clint Carlisle scored goals for the Bulls later in the third period to close out scoring.
Davis scored two goals for the Wild while Hartley scored a goal and two assists. Also for the Wild, McHugh notched two assists. For the Bulls, Carlisle scored a goal with one assist while Cole recorded a pair of assists.
Nichols made 18 saves on 21 shots and earned his second win in as many starts at the tournament. Collin Delia stopped 14 of the 19 Wenatchee shots he faced. The Wild scored two power-play goals on eight tries while the Bulls failed to score on any of their five man-advantages.
