Odessa Jackalopes News Release

(Odessa, TX) - Throughout the month of October, players for the Odessa Jackalopes have been visiting local schools in the community as part of the "Red Ribbon Week" campaign to encourage kids to stay off drugs.

The Jackalopes have already appeared in four schools, with two more left on their schedule. "Red Ribbon Week" officially runs from October 26th to October 30th.

"It's always great to be apart of things like this," said forward Jean Bourbeau (bor-BOH). "The kids are always fun and entertaining, but at the same time we get to try and help them follow the right directions in the future and stay away from drugs."

While at the schools, players visit classrooms, entertain the children, and then sit down and talk with each class about the dangers of using drugs.

The final two scheduled visits for the Jackalopes are Crockett Junior High School on Wednesday and Hood Junior High School on Thursday.

The Jackalopes return to the ice on Friday, when they visit the Corpus Christi IceRays.

The Odessa Jackalopes are the Central Hockey League affiliate for the NHL's New York Islanders and the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The team is in the middle of their 13th season in the Permian Basin. Season tickets, mini-plans, and single game tickets are available by calling (432) 552-PUCK or visiting jackalopes.org.
