Jacks Edge Americans 3-2, Take 1-0 Series Lead

ALLEN, Texas- In Game One of the Berry Conference Semi-Finals the Odessa Jackalopes defeated the Allen Americans 3-2 Thursday night in front of 2,850 at the Allen Event Center.
The Jackalopes stormed out of the gates with goals 32-seconds apart in the first period. Sebastien Thinel scored to make it 1-0 Odessa, before Mike Ramsay would add the second tally for the road team.
Allen would creep back to within one, after Bruce Graham wheeled through two defenders and fired it short-side on âJacks Goaltender Joel Martin. Both clubs went 0-1 on the power play in the first period.
The only scoring in the second period came from a Garrett Gruenke shot which found a way through traffic and evaded Americans netminder Chris Whitley. The goal, which came just 2:27 into the second frame, put Odessa on top 3-1.
Later in the second period, the Americans had several chances, but Martin shut the door on all 13 bids.
In the third period, the Jackalopes held off the Americans attack for most of the third period, until Dave Bonk netted a rebound goal with Whitley pulled from the net to make it a 3-2 game.
Allen would mount a furious push for the tying goal in the closing seconds, but Martin came up large for Odessa to preserve the 3-2 win for his club.
With the win, Odessa moves up in the best-of-five series 1-0. The Americans and Jackalopes will now skate in Game Two Sunday evening in Allen at 6:00 PM.
