Odessa Jackalopes News Release
FORT WORTH, TX - The Odessa Jackalopes came into action Friday night with a record of 1-2-1 record in their six-game road trip that started last weekend in Wichta Falls. The Jacks battled the Lone Star Brahmas Friday night looking for their 14th win of season and to move within two points of the Brahmas, who reside in sixth place in the South Division standings. The Jacks started Eric Hancock in goal, who picked up a shootout loss on Tuesday night in Rio Grande Valley. This was also the second game for Richardson, TX native Andrew Durham, who was called up from Dallas Stars U18.
The Jacks did not start out auspiciously in this one. The Brahmas scored three times on their first five shots and 8:04 into the hockey game, the Jacks found themselves down by three. Eric Hancock was pulled in favor of Yoshi Kuroiwa, who would play the rest of the contest. The Jacks would get on the board at 14:23 when Tate Sykes scored his third goal of the year on a two-on-one. Sykes snapped a shot over the shoulder of Jett Salinas to pull the Jacks within two goals at the end of the first period.
The hole became deeper in the 2nd period. After Roman Uchyn (YOU-CHIN) scored his first goal as a Brahma, Gordie Helmuth followed it up with a goal of a two-on-one of his own to put the Brahmas up 5-1. Again, the Jacks would pull closer at 11:07 when Jake Kreutzer scored his fifth goal of the season. It was a 5-2 Brahmas advantage after two.
The Jacks drew closer in the 3rd when Lukas Laub scored his team-leading 11th goal of the season at 4:15 on a slap shot from the left circle. Just 2:34 later, the Brahmas lead was stretched to three again when Kellen Wasell scored his 2nd goal of the contest. Lukas Laub pulled the Jacks back to within two just :56 later, but the Brahmas would add on two more goal to knock off the Jacks, 8-4.
The Jacks outshot the Brahmas 13-5 in the third and 28-27 for the game, but could not mount a comeback against Lone Star.
The same two teams will battle tomorrow night at 7:30 CST. Jacks fans the listen to the game on the flagship station for Jacks Hockey, Classic Rock 102.1 FM KFZX or watch on FASTHockey.com
