Jacks Claim Rookie From Dogs

Adirondack Lumberjacks News Release

Glens Falls, NY- The Adirondack Lumberjacks, of the Northern League, announced today that they have picked up catcher Travis Silver from the Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs.

The Chicago Cubs signed Silver, a native of Asheville, NC, as a non-drafted free agent in May of 2001 following his graduation from Old Dominion. Silver split last season between Boise and Lansing in the Cubs organization, earning a reputation as a quality defensive catcher. The 6'3, 215 pound catcher committed just two errors all of last season, compiling a .994 fielding percentage.

Travis played ten games with the Albany-Colonie Diamond Dogs this season before being released. The 23 year-old hit .267 with a .333 on base percentage for the Dogs.

"The addition of Travis will give us the opportunity to rest Brad Hargreaves and keep him fresh, while not losing anything defensively," stated Jacks Manager Kash Beauchamp. "Silver is great defensively and has a strong throwing arm, and will help lighten the load off of Hargreaves."

To make room for Silver on the roster, the Lumberjacks released RHP Sam Greco. Greco was 0-0 with a 7.50 ERA in six innings pitched for the Jacks this season.

The Lumberjacks also announced that C/OF Matt Tindell will make the switch to pitching. Tindell appeared in a game against the Allentown Ambassadors and struck out two in two innings of work.
