December 9, 2008 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release

MUSKEGON, MI.--- The first place Muskegon Lumberjacks of the International Hockey League have moved yet one more step forward in attaining the necessary inroads to solidify their new organization for now and in future years to come.

On this date, the Lumberjacks organization is proud to announce the appointment of Alicia Roberts to the position of Group Sales Representative, effective immediately. In her new position, Roberts will become integrally and intrinsically involved in all Group Sales and related aspects in the Lumberjacks organization.

The newest member of the Lumberjacks front office staff arrives on Muskegon's pro hockey landscape, seemingly, as a natural progression to a life devoted, dedicated and committed to the game of hockey in general and Muskegon local hockey in particular.

Born and raised in North Muskegon while being weaned on the Muskegon Chiefs Junior Hockey Program, Roberts emerged prominently as the premiere goaltender in this area. She bedazzled with her goalkeeping wizardry during the years of 1988 through 1996, initially with the Chiefs, before advancing to Team Michigan for three years and the Detroit Little Caesar's program for another two years.

Upon graduation as senior class valedictorian from North Muskegon High School in 1996, Roberts accepted an academic and athletic scholarship package from collegiate hockey-rich University of New Hampshire where she starred in the Wildcats goal, utterly rewriting the school's record book.

Through her four years and 113-games protecting the pipes of her UNH team, Alicia posted an overall career GAA of a microscopic 1.99. In 1998 her goaltending excellence spearheaded the Wildcats to the American Women's College Hockey Alliance National Championship. When she graduated from New Hampshire in 2000 with a B.S. in Kinesiology-Sport Studies, Roberts left an indelible impression on the school's hockey history and lore. She set all-new UNH goaltending records for career wins (76); saves in a single game (48); saves in one period (20); saves in one season (684); saves in a career (2,090) and shutouts in one season (8).

Following graduation, she later went on to earn a Masters of Business Administration, Sport and Event Management and Marketing degree in 2002 from the U. of Findlay where she also served as Graduate Assistant Women's Hockey Coach; the same position she held one year earlier at SUNY-Cortland in Cortland NY. In 2002-03, while at Findlay, she also became a Graduate Assistant for Athletic Marketing and Promotions.

Now back in her hometown, Roberts continues as a private goaltending coach and has been the head goaltending instructor for Dan Bylsma's West Michigan Hockey Camp in Grand Rapids. Alicia's hockey pedigree comes from a special stock as her grandfather, George Dean, was one of the most prominent pioneers and first major stars of the early historical days of Muskegon pro hockey, having starred at the old Mark for the Muskegon Sailors in the late 1930's and later in the NHL Chicago Blackhawks organization with the Kansas City Americans and Dallas Texans.
