PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks were defeated 3-2 by the Fort Wayne Komets on Tuesday at McMorran Arena.

The loss snaps a three game winning streak for the Icehawks. They fall to 12-10-0-0 on the season, but remain in second place in the International Hockey League standings with 24 points, just one point out of first place. The Komets (11-7-1-0) move into third place with 23 points.

The two teams exchanged goals in the first period and found themselves tied 2-2 after the first 20 minutes of play. The Komets got on the board first with a goal by Jay Holladay at 4:17. Several minutes later, Kerry Bowman blew past Fort Wayne defenders and fired a shot that beat goalie Nick Boucher to tie the game. Fort Wayne's P.C. Drouin and Port Huron's Kris Vernarsky also scored before the period came to a close.

The second period nearly went scoreless until a puck bounced off the glass and onto the stick of Fort Wayne's Sean O'Connor with 2:01 left in the period. He put the puck into an empty net for the eventual game winner.

Icehawks goalie Larry Sterling stopped 13 Komets shots in the third period to keep his team in the game, but the Icehawks could not find the equalizer.

Shots were tied 30-30 in the game. Boucher made 28 saves for the win. Sterling turned away 27 of 30 shots.

Both teams came up empty on the power play. The Icehawks were 0-4 with the man advantage, while the Komets were 0-3.
