Jacks Add Rookie Pitcher
June 10, 2002 - Northeast League (NEL)
Adirondack Lumberjacks News Release
Glens Falls, NY- The Adirondack Lumberjacks have signed rookie pitcher Trevor Purcell, the Northern League Club announced today. The right-hander is expected to join the Lumberjacks bullpen tonight in New Jersey.
Pitching has been a particularly strong for the Jacks thus far this year, and the addition of the 6'5, 215 pound pitcher is expected to make the bullpen that much better.
"With pitcher Steve King doing such a great job as a hitter, we are essentially one pitcher short in the bullpen," stated Jacks General Manager Curt Jacey. "Trevor will definitely see action this series."
Purcell was a standout at Mt. St. Mary's College and was signed following a tryout with Lumberjack Manager Kash Beauchamp.
The Lumberjacks return home this Friday, June 14 to take on the Berkshire Black Bears. Friday is Saratoga Baseball Night at East Field. The game will be preceded by a baseball clinic for kids at 5 PM, and City of Saratoga Mayor Ken Klotz will throw out the first pitch. Tickets for this and all remaining home games are available by calling the Lumberjacks ticket office at (518) 743-9618.
