Bangor Lumberjacks News Release

Bangor, ME- The Bangor Lumberjacks have signed a pair of pitchers to 2004 contracts, the Northeast League club announced today. The Jacks signed lefty Yunior Cabrera and rookie right-hander John Parker to contracts. To make room for the new additions on the roster, the Jacks released LHP John Duffy and RHP Brandon Bowe.

Cabrera was signed by the Mets as a non-drafted free agent in 1996 out of his native Dominican Republic, and played seven years in their organization. Last season, while pitching in single-A Capital City, Cabrera went 3-5 with a 3.16 ERA in fifteen starts. The 24 year-old has a career record of 23-18 and a career 3.29 ERA in 363.1 innings on the mound.

Parker, rookie form Oklahoma, saw limited action with the Shreveport (LA) Sports of the Central League last season, going 1-1 with a 5.79 ERA in 4.1 innings.

Bowe was 0-2 with a 15.00 ERA in three appearances from the bullpen this season. Duffy, originally used as the situational lefty, had an infinite ERA in two appearances.

The Lumberjacks continue their home stand through the weekend against the New Jersey Jackals and against the Elmira Pioneers on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the Wink. All games start at 6:30 PM with the exception of Sunday, June 6, which is a 2 PM start and Tuesday, June 8, which is the Lumberjacks school day with a start time of 11 AM. That game only has about 200 tickets remaining. Call (207) 947-1900 for tickets, or stop in the Lumberjacks Pro Shop in the Bangor Mall.
