
JackHammers Use Four-Run Sixth to Top RiverHawks, 9-5

JOLIET, IL - Freddie Thon drove in four runs and Jonathan Wyatt collected four hits to lead the JackHammers past the RiverHawks 9-5 Tuesday night at Silver Cross Field. Joliet improved 7-5 with the win and have now won four of their first five home games to start the season.
The JackHammers (7-5) broke a 5-5 tie with four runs (three earned) in the sixth. Joliet loaded the bases with two outs and scored the game winning run on a passed ball by Adam Shorsher. Brad Correll then drew a walk against Brandon Todd for a 7-5 advantage. Freddie Thon followed with a single to right, scoring the final two runs of the night.
The RiverHawks (6-7) used a four run inning of their own to capture a 5-4 lead in the fifth. Jason James knocked out Devin Anderson with a single and Patrick O'Sullivan greeted William Jackel with a RBI single to left center. Randall Simon gave Rockford the lead with a two run double down the right field line.
Joliet jumped out on Kyle Ruwe (0-2) to a 4-1 lead after four innings. Thon knocked home runs in the first and third and Wyatt drove home two more in the fourth.
Brian Gartley (1-0) threw two solid frames out of the bullpen, allowing four hits and one run to earn his first victory.
Anderson got the start and lasted 4.1 innings, surrendering four runs (three earned) on five hits with two strikeouts.
Ruwe was charged with the loss after allowing seven runs on eight hits over 5.2 innings.
The JackHammers and RiverHawks continue the four game set tomorrow morning at 11:10 a.m. Roger Lincoln (1-0) will oppose Ross Stout (0-1). Pre-game show comes your way at 11:00 a.m. on 1340 WJOL.
