Joliet JackHammers News Release

The Joliet JackHammers (12-12) rode Ross Stout to a 5-1 victory in game one and fell short in game two 7-1 to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (16-7) Wednesday night in front of 4,726 at Silver Cross Field.

Stout (2-2) went the distance, surrendering only one run on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk. The lone tally against Stout came in the first on a Nic Jackson double, plating Mike Coles from first.

The JackHammers scored five unanswered, taking the lead for good on Joe Billick's second home run of the season, a two run shot in the second off Scott Fogelson (3-1) to put Joliet up 2-1.

Brad Correll returned from an injury with one hit, knocking home a run in the third. Freddie Thon and Jon Nelson drove home the final two runs in the sixth for the 5-1 final.

Fogelson suffered his first loss of the season, allowing a season high five runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings of work.

Kevin Rios led the Joliet attack with two doubles and a run scored while Billick drove home a game high two runs.

The RedHawks enacted their revenge in game two, shutting down the JackHammer offense to the tune of one run on five hits.

Fargo put up three in the second off Todd Privett (2-2) on Kole Zimmerman and Mike Coles RBI singles. Jake Krause scored on a Privett wild pitch for the 3-0 advantage.

The Hawks put up four insurance runs in the sixth, sending ten hitters to the plate. Zach Penprase drove home a run after two RedHawks scored on a wild pitch and passed ball respectively. Carlo Cota added a bases loaded walk to the seventh and final tally.

The JackHammers broke up the shutout on a Jon Nelson single in the sixth, scoring Brad Correll. That proved to be the lone Joliet run as the JackHammers couldn't take advantage of eight walks.

Privett lasted 4.2 innings and allowed three runs on five hits with six strikeouts while William Jackel surrendered three runs on two hits in two-thirds of an inning.

The JackHammers and RedHawks will meet in the rubber game of the series tomorrow night at Silver Cross Field. Bear Bay (2-2) will go opposite Matt Mossey (2-1) on the bump. First pitch is slated for 7:10 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. pre-game show.
