(Augusta, GA)--Eugenio Velez of the Augusta GreenJackets lifted a soft single into left field in the bottom of the seventh inning Wednesday, driving in the eventual game-winning run in a 5-4 victory over the Lake County Captains at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

Velez, who had three hits, two steals and one RBI in the game, singled off Captains reliever Jason Schutt (1-2) to drive home Antoan Richardson, who had also singled during the two-run inning that erased a 4-3 Captains lead. The other run scored on a fielding error by second baseman Matt Fornasiere.

The Captains (25-19) came back from a 3-2 deficit with an RBI single by Fornasiere in the sixth and a run-scoring hit by Max Ramirez in the seventh off eventual winner Taylor Wilding (2-0).

Osiris Matos worked the ninth for his 12th save. The GreenJackets (34-11) gained a split in the series with the Captains.

The Captains finished the road trip 5-3, but fell to four games out of first as the division-leading Lakewood BlueClaws won at Asheville, 6-3.

Captains starter Jim Deters worked six innings and left with a 4-3 lead, but was denied his chance at his 10th win.

The Captains will return to Classic Park wot begin an eight-game homestand on Friday night at 7:05. For tickets, call 440-954-WINS.
