Jackets Complete Doubleheader Sweep with Shutout

September 9, 2021 - Low-A East League (Low-A East) - Augusta GreenJackets News Release

North Augusta, SC - GAME #1 OF 2: In one of Ryan Cusick's final starts in 2021, he gave the fans a show. Seven strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work was plenty. He allowed one run. The offense supported him with six early runs to take the first game of the doubleheader by a final of 6-4.

In the first inning, a wild pitch scored Justyn-Henry Malloy to put the Jackets on the board. Later in the inning, Landon Stephens smashed a two-run homer to extend the lead to 3-0. It was Stephens' 18th of the year.

In the second inning, the GreenJackets scored three more. An error on the pitcher, Adrian Alcantara, scored one. Then Cade Bunnell blasted his 15th home run of the year. The two-run shot made it a comfortable 6-0 advantage.

Darryl Collins homered off Cusick in the fourth inning. That was the only run he'd allow over 3.2 innings.

Columbia inched closer in the fifth inning. A two-run homer cut the Augusta lead in half, it was 6-3. The Fireflies tacked one more on in the 6th inning on a Saul Garza double. Dylan Spain kept the game at 6-4 though and the Jackets held on for their fourth consecutive win.

GAME #2: The GreenJackets took a no-hitter into the seventh inning for the second time this week, but fell short. A base-hit from Herard Gonzalez ended the no-hit bid, but the Jackets still snagged a shutout and a doubleheader sweep. A 4-0 win capped off the final Thirsty Thursday at SRP Park in 2021.

In the second inning, Christian Robinson came up with a two-out single to score Braulio Vasquez from second. It broke open the scoring. Andrew Hoffmann was brilliant on the mound. Five no-hit innings with seven strikeouts for Hoffmann capped off a great night of work.

The GreenJackets scored three times in the sixth inning. Willie Carter singled to score two and a Robinson fielder's choice scored one more.

Gabby Rodriguez threw a scoreless sixth. Lisandro Santos tossed a scoreless ninth to get Augusta their fifth consecutive win.

* Ryan Cusick went 3.2 innings in game one of the doubleheader. It was the longest outing of his professional career. * Andrew Hoffmann has gone 4.2 innings or more in his last three starts. His seven strikeouts were a career high. * Willie Carter went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in game two.
