New Jersey Jackals News Release

Every Jackals' starter recorded a hit Friday in a 13-5 win over the hometown Newark Bears.

The Jackals cruise to their fourth straight win led by Francisco Carraballo's four-hit day and a season-high 12 team walks.

On hot night just outside New York City, Dustin Birosak retired the first 11 batters he faced as the Jackals' four-run fourth inning paced the lead the Jackals would never relinquish.

After Bryan Sabatella scored on a wild pitch in the first inning, the Jackals faced a two-out, no one-on scenario in the fourth, but six straight reached base to give New Jersey a 5-0 lead. Home runs by Nick Giarraputo and Carlos Guzman in the ninth capped off a 13-5 Jackals win.

Guzman pushed his team-leading walk total to 32 with three walks today. His 2-3 effort extends his on-base streak to 15. Guzman and Matt Cusick's three walks a piece were only half of the Jackals total today. Twelve walks falls two shy of the Can-Am record.

Jackals' leadoff man Chris Curran was 3-6. He has recorded three hits in each of his last three ballgames.

Francisco Carraballo's four-hit day gives him eight three-hit games this month. He is 45 for his last 108 (.417).

Chris Curran was 3-5. He has recorded three straight three-hit games. He's 9-14 over that stretch.

Jackals' starter Dustin Birosak gets the victory. In his third start of the season, the former reliever goes five-and-a-third innings and allows five runs on eight hits. He didn't walk a batter for the second straight outing.

Jake Wiley threw a scoreless eighth inning in his Jackals debut.

For the Bears, Tucker Nathans' three-run, fifth-inning home run highlighted the offense. Nathans finished today 1-4.

Pedro Rivera gets the loss. In his first start since giving up a lone run in a complete-game win over the Quebec Capitales, Rivera allows six runs, two earned, in five innings.

With the win, New Jersey improves to 35-24 on the season, reaching their high-water mark of 11 games over .500. With Rockland's victory, the Jackals remain two-and-a-half games up on the final spot in the Can-Am Championship series.

Newark falls to 19-46.

Tomorrow, the Jackals send out Isaac Pavlik (7-1, 3.11). The Jackals' ace and sits fourth in the league with 69 strikeouts. Coming off Pitcher of the Week honors, Mike Ness (6-2, 3.50) goes for the Bears. A no-hitter under his belt in 2012, Ness has allowed only one run in his last 24 innings pitched.

First pitch set for 6:35. The pregame show begins 10 minutes prior.
