New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - The New Jersey Jackals swept the Allentown Ambassadors for the third time this season, winning 5-2 Wednesday night at Yogi Berra Stadium. The Jackals have taken 14 out of 15 games from the Ambassadors this year.

Although New Jersey put a run on the board in the 4th inning, they did not have a hit until Billy Brown's single in the 6th. Brown scored on Billy Rich's sac fly to tie the game at two. Rich gave the Jackals the lead in the 8th inning with an RBI single and Dave Kennedy put distance between the Jackals and Ambassadors with a two run double.

With tonight's victory, Joel Bennett (13-2) is one win away from tying the Northern League record for most victories in a season. The 13 wins are a season high for Bennett and he now has won 99 career games. He pitched eight innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on five hits. He walked four and struck out nine to bring his league-leading total to 136. The Northern League East record for strikeouts in a season is 143. Chris Chavez earned his 3rd save by pitching a perfect 9th.

With the win, the Jackals brought their magic number down to three and can clinch the second half when they play the 2nd place Elmira Pioneers in a four game series over the weekend. New Jersey is 58-22 on the season, six wins away from tying the Northern League record for wins. They have ten games left to play.

Joe Gannon (4-6) was the hard luck loser, pitching a no hitter, through the first five innings. He gave up five runs, four earned, on five hits while walking five and striking out one.
