Jackals Slip up in OT to Brampton

BRAMPTON, Ont.-The Elmira Jackals (5-10-4-0) saw two one-goal leads slip away, eventually losing in overtime to the Brampton Beast (9-7-1-2), 3-2, Sunday afternoon at the Powerade Centre in Brampton.
For the third straight game the Jackals scored first, taking a 1-0 lead at 12:06 of the opening period. With Vaclav Karabacek sitting for tripping, the Jackals penalty kill capitalized on a 2-on-1 shorthanded rush, led by Sebastien Sylvestre, who snapped a shot from the right circle to give the Jackals a 1-0 lead on his fourth goal of the season. That lasted for 21 seconds before former Jackal Scott Jacklin banged in a rebound on the same Beast power play to quickly tie the game at one.
Later in the first, Matt Lane and Karabacek established a relentless forecheck to force a Beast turnover. Karabacek took the puck away and got a wraparound shot on goal, which Zach Fucale saved, but Lane pounced on the rebound for his first professional goal at 16:24, giving the Jackals a 2-1 advantage.
After a scoreless second period, which saw the Jackals successfully kill off two Brampton power plays, the game went into the third period with the Jackals ahead 2-1. Jacklin got his second goal of the day, this one a shorthanded goal, at 11:51 of the third, to tie the game at two, sending the game into overtime.
Just 59 seconds into the 3-on-3 overtime, the Beast won the game as David Vallorani buried a shot on a 2-on-1 rush, converting on a pass from Luke Pither to give the Beast a 3-2 win, their fifth win over the Jackals this season.
