
Jackals Slip Past 'Dogs in Shootout

The Elmira Jackals made it three straight wins at the First Arena, 3-of-4 in the month of January, as they held off the Riverdogs 4-3 in a shootout.
Richmond grabbed the lead just 1:28 into the game as Kevin St. Jacques banged in a rebound to make it 1-0. But the Jackals struck back four minutes later when Eddy Lowe knocked in his 12th of the season to knot the score at one.
The Riverdogs again snatched the lead with a quick strike to start of the second frame. Sixty three seconds in Luch Nasato snuck a shot past Aubry to put Richmond in front again, but shortly after Don Smith equalized on the power play. Playing in his first game as a member of the Jackals, right wing Peter Bournazakis assisted on the goal. The second period was highlighted by to lengthy skirmishes, which accounted for 55 of the games' 69 penalty minutes.
Elmira scored their first lead of the game just 36 seconds into the third, as Lowe went top shelf for his second of the night, which the Jackals were enjoying a 4-on-3 power play. Richmond leveled six minutes later by the hand of David Brosseau and sent this exciting match into a shootout.
In the extra session Randy Murphy buried his first attempt and it would be all the Jackals would need since Peter Aubry stopped all five Richmond attempts. Aubry finished with 30 saves on 33 shots, which Maxime Gingras stopped 34-of-37.
The Jackals travel to Richmond next Wednesday night before coming back to the First Arena for another match up against the Riverdogs the following Friday night, 7pm in Elmira.
