New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ - The New Jersey Jackals have announced the signing of infielder Kris Sanchez for the 2011 season.
Sanchez, 27, turned in a career year for the Sussex Skyhawks in 2010, batting .281 with 19 home runs while starting all 91 games at first base for Sussex. His 19 home runs and 41 extra-base hits ranked second in the Can-Am League while his 74 RBIs ranked third.
Originally signed by the Seattle Mariners as a nondrafted free agent in 2007 out of the University of Hawaii, Sanchez spent three seasons in the Mariners' system. The left-handed hitting Sanchez was a Single-A Midwest League mid-season All-Star in 2009 with the Clinton LumberKings a year after finishing fifth in the rookie-level Appalachian League with 11 home runs while posting a .336 batting average for the Pulaski Mariners in 2008.
A native of Marana, Ariz., Sanchez has reached double-digit home runs in three of his first four professional seasons and owns a .283 career batting average.
Sanchez was acquired by New Jersey from the American Association's St. Paul Saints in exchange for cash on December 13. He had previously been traded from the Sussex Skyhawks to St. Paul on November 4 along with outfielder Kraig Binick in exchange for cash.
