Colonials Acquire Salvato

Pittsfield, MA February 8 2011:The Pittsfield Colonials announced today that they have acquired former Sussex Skyhawks RHP Matt Salvato in the CanAm League dispersal draft.

All Sussex players became available after the team disbanded following the 2010 season.

Salvato returned to action in 2010 after missing the 2009 season. He went 1-0 in 25 games out of the bullpen for the Skyhawks with two saves and a 4.01 ERA. In 2008 for the Skyhawks, the righty went 10-4 in 21 games, making 13 starts with a 4.73 ERA.

He began his career in 2007 splitting time between the Worcester Tornadoes and the New Haven County Cutters. Salvato went a combined 2-3 in 24 games with a 2.80 ERA.

A ground ball specialist, Salvato has only allowed 11 homers in his professional career, spanning 175 innings.

The Pittsfield Colonials will open up their second season on May 26 against the New Jersey Jackals. The Colonials will play 54 home games at Wahconah Park this season. For information on season tickets, the 1791 Club or partnerships with the Colonials, call 413-236-2961.
