Jackals Raised Donor Awareness Last Weekend

Elmira, NY - The Elmira Jackals and The Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network teamed up for the 3rd year in a row to bring organ donation information to Jackal Fans. Fans at Friday night's game were introduced to two families affected by the powerful gift of organ donation. The Cronin family, who tragically lost their son Kyle in a fatal automobile accident and the Plemons family, who's son Matthew received a life saving kidney transplant from Kyle. The two families participated in a ceremonial puck drop at the Jackals game representing the giving of life.

Fans were encourage to visit the Donor Information Table to learn about how they could be organ donors and talk to the two families about their experience. By visiting, fans became eligible to win free door prizes including an autographed Jackals Jersey and Hockey Stick, Binghamton Senators and Syracuse Crunch tickets and Watkins Glen passes. The crowd was treated to 200 donor t-shirts and 200 green "donate life" bracelets as well as artwork displayed by local youths.

Overall, the project helped to raise awareness of the positive effects of organ donation and successfully signed up 35 additional donors. The volunteers encourage people to think about these kinds of decisions now, often choices like this are not made and can cost a life.
