Elmira Jackals News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays (2-4-1-0) scored 3:04 into overtime to defeat the Elmira Jackals (2-4-1-0), 2-1, in overtime Thursday night at the North Charleston Coliseum.
The Jackals got off to the start they were looking for on the road, taking a 1-0 lead 3:37 into the first period. Daultan Leveille started a 2-on-1 rush for the Jackals with a pass to Colin Murray down the left wing. Murray got to the left circle before centering a pass to Sebastien Sylvestre, who one-timed a shot on goal, which was stopped by Parker Milner. Murray pounced on the rebound and tapped it in to make it 1-0 Jackals. It stayed that way until the last possible moment, when Steven McParland scored as the period expired. After a brief discussion between the officials, it was determined to be a good goal, sending the game into the first intermission tied 1-1 .
The game remained deadlocked throughout the second period, despite the Jackals facing a Stingrays 5-on-3 power play early in the frame. Elmira killed off that man advantage with help from several strong saves from goalie John Muse. The Stingrays held a 12-3 shot advantage in the second period, but the game remained tied 1-1 moving into the third .
After another scoreless period, the game went to overtime, where Kelly Zajac buried the game winner for the Stingrays 3:04 into the 3-on-3 session. He took the puck away in the slot and skated in on goal against Muse, before lifting a puck under the crossbar to give the Stingrays the 2-1 win.
