ELMIRA, NY - September 4, 2015 - The Elmira Jackals, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres and the AHL's Rochester Americans, announced today that the team has acquired defenseman Kevin Clare from the Toledo Walleye in exchange for future considerations.
Clare, 23, joins the Jackals following a successful rookie campaign with the Walleye. The 6-foot-1 200-pound blueliner recorded 18 points (three goals, 15 assists), 31 penalty minutes and a plus-8 rating in 51 games with the Walleye. Clare also appeared in six playoff contests.
Clare posted 18 points as a rookie last season with the Walleye.
"We are thrilled to add Kevin to our organization," said Jackals head coach Jamie Russell. "He has a tremendous background having trained at the USNTDP and the University of Michigan. He gained some valuable experience last year as a rookie in Toledo and we are looking forward to helping Kevin continue to develop his game."
Prior to turning pro, the New Rochelle, N.Y. native spent four seasons at the University of Michigan, collecting 24 points (three goals, 21 assists), a plus-13 rating and 194 blocked shots in 111 NCAA games. Clare notched a career-high 10 assists and a team-leading 81 blocked shots as a senior. During his freshman season, he helped Michigan win the Great Lakes Invitational, the CCHA regular season championship and reached the NCAA Frozen Four title game. Before attending the University of Michigan, Clare skated at the U.S. National Team Development Program from 2008-2010.
