Odessa Jackalopes News Release

ODESSA, TX - It was a good start, but the night ended the wrong way for the Jackalopes as they fell to the Topeka Pilots 8-2 at the Ector County Coliseum on Friday night.

The Jacks had the first goal of the evening off a nice play. As Matt Hutton deflected a dump in from his own blue line he deflected the puck of the left-boards and onto the stick of Vilho Saariluoma. Saariluoma skated in and dropped a pass back to Hutton who cut into the high slot and sent a hard wrist-shot low past Guy Blessing.

Though the Jacks got on the board first Topeka rattled off four straight goals, two in the first and two more in the second to take a 4-1 lead at one point. But the Jackalopes fought back, literally. After a fight involving Hutton turned momentum back in Odessa's favor, the Jackalopes picked up a power-play goal off of the stick of Connor Scahill. Scahill showed great poise and patience with the puck as he found a lane and shot it though several bodies and was able to find the back of the net.

Odessa ended the second period with carry-over power play time to start the third down 4-2. After failing to capitalize on both the remaining power play and a penalty shot for Jack Rudin, Topeka took over. They scored four unanswered power-play goals in the third period to finish the game 8-2.

The Jackalopes will look to force a weekend split on Saturday night at the Ector County Coliseum. Face off is set for 7:15 pm.
