Odessa Jackalopes News Release
ODESSA, TX - Jackalopes goaltender Aaron Randazzo made 44 saves in a standout performance for the St. Cloud State University commit. Unfortunately it was not enough as the Jackalopes fell to the Corpus Christi IceRays by a score of 2-1 on Sunday at the Ector County Coliseum.
After a scoreless first period the Jackalopes struck first early on in the second period with Vilho Saariluoma streaking down the left-wing and rifling a shot bast Corpus Christi netminder Cal Sandquist. Saariluoma, a Bentley University commit, picked up his fourth goal of the season to put the Jackalopes ahead 1-0.
Later on in the second period however the IceRays scored two goals just one minute and 28 seconds apart. The first was a power-play goal that tied the game and the second was an even-strength goal that put the Rays ahead. As was the case most of the weekend, the Jackalopes showed great resiliency in the second, killing off four complete Corpus Christi power plays in the period.
Aaron Randazzo was strong, making 17 saves alone in the second period which ties a season high.
The third period began with the Jackalopes killing off another penalty and then going to work. Both teams had a high about of chances and again Randazzo was called on to make some big stops, 19 in all in the third period which is a new season high.
Unfortunately the Jackalopes offense that broke out the previous two nights could not break out on Sunday as the Jackalopes fell 2-1 to the IceRays. The Jacks will get set for a road series in Amarillo, Texas this coming Friday and Saturday as the I-27 Rivalry heats up between the Jackalopes and the Bulls.
