Chicago Steel News Release

GENEVA, ILLINOIS - Chicago Steel defenseman Jack Babbage has been named United States Hockey League Defenseman of the Week for the first time in his USHL career, the league announced Friday.

Babbage, a native of Tully, New York, tallied two goals in two games against the Green Bay Gamblers on Nov. 20 & 21 to earn the weekly honor.

"Jack's leadership has shown through his play thus far," said Steel Associate Head Coach Mathew DesChamps. "His selfless approach has allowed him to excel and show up in important moments. Jack has provided our team high-level playmaking and production while playing against opponents best players. Our young defensemen are very fortunate to have his example to follow."

The Steel alternate captain started the season with a career-best three-game goal streak, jumping out to a share of the USHL lead in markers among defensemen.

Last season, Babbage helped the Steel to the club's first Anderson Cup in franchise history as regular season champions. The 6 foot, 192 pound defenseman registered career highs in points (13) and goals (5) in 47 games in the 2019-2020 season.

The Steel return to action this weekend with a back-to-back set at Fox Valley Ice Arena against Team USA. Both Friday's matchup against the U17s and Saturday's clash against the U18s are set for 7:05 pm CT puck drops.
