Saints Back at Home against NTDP on Saturday

November 27, 2020 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

After a mid-week postponement against the Waterloo Black Hawks, the Saints will be in action at home on Saturday against the NTDP U-17's. Dubuque is looking for their first victory of the season as they have had a rough start to the 2020-21 campaign. The NTDP group is coming into the game with just one USHL contest under their belts. It was an impressive performance which saw them record 10 goals. This will be the first of eight matchups between the two conference foes.

-Dubuque has plenty of young talent of their team this season and a few of those players have already made their impact felt. Connor Kurth and Max Montes have both recorded their first USHL goals in the first three games of the year.

-Daniyal Dzhaniyev will face off against his former team for the first time this season. Dzhaniyev has been the catalyst for the Saints offense this season as he leads the team in goals with three, and points with four. Dzhaniyev has scored in two of the three Saints games so far.

-Just by looking at the stats, you wouldn't guess that the NTDP has played just one league game this season. 11 players have points and seven have multiple points through just one game. Isaac Howard leads the charge with five points as he recorded a hat trick and two assists in the U-17's first go around this year.

-Frank Nazar and Devin Kaplan also had monster games for the NTDP. Nazar had two goals and three assists and Kaplan had four helpers. Tyler Boucher, Lane Hutson, Seamus Casey and Rutger McGroarty all have two points this season and Casey is the only one of the groups without a goal.

-Dubuque will look to get more reinforcements back heading into the weekend. Last game the Saints played with just four defensemen and 12 forwards and the fatigue seemed noticeable later in the contest.

-Dubuque has done well to get points from their returning players as well this year. Every player who played at least 10 games with the Saints last season has at least a point outside of Robert Cronin. However, Cronin has played just one game so far this year. Riley Stuart leads all returning players with three points, all assists, this season.

-Dubuque will stay at home after their Saturday game against the NTDP as they play four more times on home ice to start the month of December. Dubuque will take on Waterloo and Chicago for the first time this season and the following weekend will meet back up with Muskegon.
