Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Albuquerque Isotopes President Ken Young has been named Minor League Executive of the Year by Baseball America, a prestigious accolade awarded to just one person each year in all of Minor League Baseball.
Recognized for his successful ownership of four Minor League Baseball teams, Young maintains an active leadership role throughout the sport. He serves on the executive committees of both the Pacific Coast and International Leagues, is the Joint Triple-A Board of Trustees representative, and is chairman of the Minor League Baseball Marketing Committee. In addition to the Isotopes, Young also owns the Triple-A Norfolk Tides, Double-A Bowie Baysox and the Class-A Frederick Keyes, all three Baltimore Orioles affiliates.
"Ken's accomplishments and involvement in running four teams and running them well certainly distinguishes him for this award," said Lee Folger, President/Publisher of Baseball America. "It's great fun to recognize someone who is leading the game in the right way and he's certainly done that in both a business sense and through his involvement in the community."
Under Young's leadership, the Isotopes are considered one of the finest franchises in Minor League Baseball, with a record 602,129 fans visiting Isotopes Park last season. In addition to attendance, the Isotopes also perennially rank among Minor League Baseball's best in merchandise sales and overall fan experience.
Young was formally presented with the award at last week's Baseball Winter Meetings, but at some point during the 2010 season Folger and Baseball America will come to Albuquerque to further recognize him in front of Isotopes fans.
Major League Weekend returns to Isotopes Park next April 2 and April 3 with back-to-back exhibition games featuring the Colorado Rockies and Seattle Mariners. Tickets are on sale now exclusively for 'Topes Season Ticket and Mini-Plan Holders and will go on sale to the general public February 20.
