Bridgeport Islanders News Release

(August 16) –The National Hockey League's New York Islanders have signed defenseman Vince Macri who notched an assist and five penalty minutes in three games while on a tryout contract with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers last March.

"I was real impressed with Vince's character and aggressive style of play in his short time with us last season," said Sound Tigers head coach Greg Cronin. "I've always said absence creates an opportunity, and he did a wonderful job with his opportunity and earned this contract."

Macri, 23, played his first professional game on March 26th in Philadelphia, one night after goaltender Wade Dubielewicz backstopped the Islanders to a 4-2 road win over the Flyers in his NHL debut. Macri assisted on the Sound Tigers' lone goal in a loss to the Philadelphia Phantoms in his first game with the team. The 6'3'' 210-pounder from Durham, New Hampshire signed with Bridgeport after posting career highs of six goals, nine assists, 15 points and 52 penalty minutes in 31 games during his senior season at Brown. He totaled 12 goals, 21 assists, 33 points and 157 penalty minutes in 106 games during his four years, 2000-2004, with the Bears.
