Charlottetown Islanders News Release

The Charlottetown Islanders and General Manager Jim Hulton made a big splash on Wednesday morning. Hulton announced the acquisition of star forward Xavier Simoneau from Drummondville in exchange for a 2021 first round pick (11th overall) and a 3rd, 4th, and 5th round pick in 2023.

Simoneau was drafted 9th overall by the Voltigeurs in the 2017 QMJHL Draft and has been a key player for them over the last four seasons. A native of Gatineau, Simoneau has been the captain of the Voltigeurs for the last two seasons and has had great offensive numbers. In 2019-20 he finished 5th in QMJHL league scoring with 89 points and in a shortened 2021 season he tallied 37 points in 27 games.

"We are extremely excited to add a player of Xavier's calibre to our lineup. He is a former league finalist for MVP who has averaged well over a point a game in his career" says Hulton. "His offensive pedigree will help offset the loss of Desruisseaux and Casey while his style, grit and tenacity are a perfect fit with our team identity."
