Adirondack Frostbite News Release

Glens Falls, NY – The Adirondack Frostbite, member of the United Hockey League (UHL), today signed defenseman Steve O'Rourke, it was announced by Frostbite Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Marc Potvin. This will be O'Rourke's first season with the Frostbite and third professional season playing in North America. As per team policy, terms of the agreement are not being disclosed.

O'Rourke, 29, was drafted by the New York Islanders in the seventh round (159th overall) of the 1992 NHL Entry Draft. In 70 games last year with the Mississippi Sea Wolves (ECHL), the Summerland, British Columbia native had 27 points (5g, 22a) with 96 penalty minutes. O'Rourke was also named Mississippi's Defensive Player of the Year.

"Steve is a proven defenseman at this level," said Potvin. "He is also very mobile and has good size, which is something we lacked last season at this position."

O'Rourke's first pro season was in 1999-00 with the Louisiana IceGators (ECHL), where he had two assists in ten games. From 2000-03 the 6'1'' 195-pounder played in England for the Bracknell Bees where he tallied 44 points (12g, 32a). His brother, Dan, is a referee in the National Hockey League.

O'Rourke is the ninth player to sign with the Frostbite for the 2004-05 season. He joins left wing Hugo Belanger, right wings Frank Littlejohn and Trevor Segstro, center Sylvain Cloutier, defensemen Scott Drevitch, Kamil Kuriplach and Henrik Bergfors and goalie Derek Gustafson.
